- Murdoch to Chao: Ciao

- <p> Fox Inc.'s STEPHEN CHAO may be the first executive to be
- fired for producing an interesting speech. At an Aspen seminar
- organized by his boss, media octopus RUPERT MURDOCH, Chao was
- addressing a panel on "The Threat to Democratic Capitalism
- Posed by Modern Culture" when a young man hired by Chao stepped
- forward -- and proceeded to strip. In the room were Defense
- Secretary Dick Cheney and other prominent conservatives not
- known for their appreciation of exotic dance. "The crowd didn't
- think the strip would be complete," recalls John O'Sullivan,
- editor of the National Review. "When it was, they were slightly
- stunned." Before you could say "The Threat to Democratic
- Capitalism Posed by Modern Culture," Murdoch stripped Chao of
- his job. Ironically, the 36-year-old exec's career was built on
- outrageousness. A creator of the kiss (at least)-and-tell game
- show Studs, Chao rose to president of Fox Television Stations
- and Fox News. As for Murdoch, his assets include newspapers
- that prominently feature frugally attired young women -- proving
- it's not what you do, it's where you do it.
